Enjoy good seafood in Havana!
There are two types of restaurants in Cuba.
One is state-owned and the other is private.
Since Cuba is one of the world’s last remaining socialist countries, restaurants are all operated by the country. However, it began to change recently focusing on the tourism industry to incorporate foreign currency as one of the measures to improve the economy. It started to be allowed to run restaurants and inns privately, not state-owned.
What is different between private and state-owned restaurant?
It is “quality”. The quality of cooking and the quality of service are totally different.
When you travel to Cuba, you should try both types of restaurants and compare them.
The private restaurant is called “Paladar” in Cuba.
Today, we introduce you one of the best “Paladar” in Havana, Café Laurent.
It is located in the neighborhood called Vedado, a central business district and urban neighborhood in Havana. The restaurant is on the upper floor of the apartment building.
This is a Cuban food restaurant, but instead of serving typical Cuban food such as beef dish called “ropa vieja” or fried pork wrapped with cheese and ham, they have various menus for seafood and they are delicious.
And the service is great. If you are lucky, you can have a seat on the roof top terrace with views to the malecon which is amazing.
